CBN QHSE MARCH UPDATES
01 Maret 2023The Project aims to create an environment where everyone is safe and productive. Many initiatives have been implemented to improve health and safety performance for our employees, subcontractors, and suppliers. Safety and health are fundamental to successful construction projects. They affect productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction while reducing risk exposure to our Company.
The number of workplace injuries and illnesses is a crucial indicator of a company's commitment to safety and health. It also provides an effective way to set goals and measure progress. CBN must take benchmarks to preclude accidents and injuries from sustaining a safe environment for our workers. We also ensure they have access to training and adequate equipment to work safely.
To improve employee performance, it is essential to monitor their performance monthly. The following are some of CBN's monthly performance records:
- The number of personnel deployed: 326.
- Total man-hours recorded: 64,959.
Fire Safety
Fires at construction sites cause countless deaths and injuries, resulting in millions of dollars in property loss and damage each year.
The most commonly cited causes of construction site fires are:
- Electrical failure/malfunction – This is one of the leading causes of fire on construction sites because of improper wiring, installation, and maintenance. A lot of times, this happens when workers do not use suitable materials or do not maintain them properly. Properly maintained wires should have no exposed ends, damaged insulation, or bare conductors. It is also vital to ensure that all power tools are adequately grounded to prevent short circuits and fires from occurring during use.
- Abandoned or discarded materials – This may include paint cans or other containers that have not been appropriately emptied, which can easily ignite if left out in the open where sparks can reach them.
- Heat sources too close to combustibles – For example, welding equipment should never be placed near flammable chemicals or gases due to the risk of explosion if any sparks from the kit should encounter vapors.
- To help decrease the risk of fire, go over these typical hazards and share the importance of vigilance at the worksite during toolbox meetings before starting to work. Go over how to use fire extinguishers and iterate the importance of accessibility, so workers know not to block their access to them.
CBN is hosting a fire safety campaign in our offices and construction sites to prepare for the upcoming construction season.
The following are the activities being conducted:
- Toolbox meeting on fire safety and first aid.
- Fire extinguisher training.
- Fire drill at each site.
- Fire awareness posters are displayed throughout the office.
- The use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Establish a communication protocol around the work area.
